Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided Woodfin’s Mills Manufacturing Corporation (MMC) on the morning of August 12; arresting 57 workers on charges involving immigration issues.

The deadline to prevent foreclosure on Bobby Ginn’s 6,000-acre golf resort in Watauga and Wilkes counties has passed. A consortium of lenders headed by Credit Suisse had an agreement with the developer to delay foreclosure for 30 days after principal and interest payments on the $675 million loan for Laurelmor and three other resort communities were missed on June 30.

VanWingerden Greenhouses suffers $2.5 million damages in fire

Damages of $2.5 million were suffered when a three-acre greenhouse at VanWingerden International containing Christmas poinsettias burned on August 10, according to company officials.Mills River Fire Department, along with 14 others from Buncombe, Henderson, and Transylvania counties fought the fire that began at the south end of the greenhouse.
